Flavor Blast Smoothies (No Added Sugar)

January 15, 2018

For YEARS I tried to find a way to make smoothies like they do at the smoothie food chains without the SUPER high sugar content they have. I mean, have you ever actually looked up the nutritional information on these metabolism killers??? A small smoothie has between 27 and 50 grams of sugar. That's equivalent to eating a VERY large 3 cup bowl of Captain Crunch cereal. But come on, who buys a small smoothie? Pfft....not me! There are between 50 and 110 grams of sugar in medium and large smoothies. That's like eating a mixing bowl FULL of 6 cups of Captain Crunch! The reason for the high sugar content is because these chains add heavy sugar based syrups and juices to your "healthy" smoothies. This sends your Blood Glucose Level through the roof and your metabolism on vacation.

When your Blood Glucose Level is high, did you know that your metabolism shuts off and you stop burning fat? When you drink in one of their bad boys, ESPECIALLY a large, your metabolism starts saying, "Whoohoo! We are liven the high life guys, no more work for us in here! Just slurp in that syrupy goodness and relax!" This means NO MORE FAT BURNING FOR YOU!  Well, I found a way around this one day as I researched smoothie recipes and discovered Crystal Light Smoothies on the Kraft Foods website, but I changed the ingredients, bringing the sugar content "LOW, Low, low". I know some of you out there stand firm against sugar substitutes but this is MUCH better than the alternative. Think of it as methadone for crack addicts, because that is EXACTLY the same part of the brain sugar addicts are accessing. No Joke! So I took this knew found knowledge on how to use "On-The-Go, Crystal Light" single serving packets, and created smoothies that taste JUST like the food chains make them, but healthier. I've created three different flavors. Here we go!

Smoothie 1:

Strawberry Banana Smoothie

Makes 4 Servings / 180 Calories (151 without the Acai Maqui Bowl Mix)

Need:  Large high powered multi blade blender like a NINJA PRO 1500 or similar / Disposable 20 oz. plastic cups (I clean mine out after each use to cut down on cost and waste)

Smoothie 1 Ingredients:

- 4 c. Light almond milk (something 40 calories a cup)

- 2 regular sized bananas

- 4 Wild Strawberry, On-The-Go, Crystal Light packets (NOT THE REGULAR PACKETS THAT MAKE 2 QUARTS! THAT WOULD BE BAD!)

- 4 Tbs. "Acia Maqui Bowl Mix" by Sunfood Superfoods found online or at many health food stores and farmers market grocery stores like Sprouts. (Make sure not to use their smoothie mixes. They are very high in sugar.) YOU DON'T HAVE TO USE THIS FOR THE SMOOTHIE TO STILL TASTE GREAT. IT WILL JUST BE A LIGHTER AND LESS INTENSE FLAVOR WITHOUT IT.

- 4 heaping cups of FROZEN strawberries

Instructions:

1. Pour almond milk into blender

2. Peel bananas, break in half, and add

3. Cut open and add contents of the four , On-The-Go, Crystal Light packets

4. Add the Acai Maqui Bowl Mix (Or you can leave this out to cut back on cost and calories. Makes the taste lighter and less intense.)

5. Add the frozen fruit

6. If using the NINJA PRO 1500, set to "Crush" setting and run for about 5 to 10 seconds until the strawberries are chopped up a bit, then switch on the "Blend" setting and run for about 1 minute until it looks like a smoothie.

7. Pour evenly into 4 plastic cups. Place any unused portions into the freezer for future use. I reheat mine first for 2 minutes at 50% power in my microwave, break up and stir, then microwave again for 1 1/2 minute at 50% power, then stir until smooth. Please comment and share any ideas you had for making this your own "Creation In The Kitchen".

Smoothie 2 - Ingredients:

Berry Lemon Tart

Makes 4 Servings / 190 Calories (157 without the Acai Maqui Bowl Mix)

- 4 c. Light almond milk (something 40 calories a cup)

- 2 regular sized bananas

- 4 Raspberry Lemonade, On-The-Go, Crystal Light packets (NOT THE REGULAR PACKETS THAT MAKE 2 QUARTS!

- 2 heaping cups of FROZEN strawberries

- 2 level cups of FROZEN raspberries

(Follow Instructions above)

Smoothie 3 - Ingredients:

Tropical Berry Smoothie

Makes 4 Servings / 200 Calories (167 without the Acai Maqui Bowl Mix)

IT WILL JUST BE A LESS INTENSE FLAVOR WITHOUT IT.

- 1  level cup FROZEN pineapple

- 3 heaping cups of FROZEN tropical fruit blend (I used one with a mix of mangoes, strawberries and blueberries. Remember that the blueberries are usually hiding down on the bottom of the bag.)
